Learning tool for Autistic Children

Having worked with Autistic teenagers who have the mental age of a toddler, this interactive learning device has been created to help them learn the alphabet. This piece combines learning the alphabet and numbers with movement. Research has shown that movement releases endorphins which relaxes autistic children who can often suffer from high levels of anxiety.

The children are presented with an interactive alphanumeric character. Using body and hand gestures they can trace the outline, starting over by clapping their hands should they make a mistake.

Wola Nani

Wola Nani is a well established charity in Cape Town, consisting of 40 crafters who work from home. This organisation sells hand crafted products to raise money for the workers in the Townships of South Africa. Taking inspiration from African materials, this range of i-pod covers brings a modern product to the Wola Nani crafters, that still can be made within their homes.

This is a go cart that i made. It combines two loves of mine, cycling and photography. Inside the go cart seat is a built in pin hole camera. As i went down hills on my pin hole camera go cart I exposed the dark room paper to light capturing an image. I chose a pin hole camera to go inside my go cart because i really wanted to experiment with movement shown through a pin hole camera which is known for taking very static images. I really loved doing this and feel i captured the feeling that you get when cycling.
